Updates on Conduct of Total Defence Badge Programmes (RESENT)

Dear teachers and officers in reading

Below is the following information from HQ CPBS Committee.

This information takes immediate effect.

We have received feedback from NEXUS-MINDEF with regards to the conduct of Total Defence Badge Lessons.

Currently Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) conducts badge lessons for both Bronze and Silver badge lessons.  Attached is the flyer provided by Singapore Discovery Centre which I had requested from them.

With our strong collaboration with NEXUS-MINDEF, we have obtained advice from them that the programmes provided out by SDC are only meant for Silver badge only.

Hence, we would like to advise schools who wish to conduct the Total Defence badge lessons, that if they wish to engage SDC, they can only use it for Silver Badge lessons only.

We are waiting for NEXUS-MINDEF to advise us further if we can adopt the assessment guidelines provided by SDC in order to qualify the students for the Silver Badge.  The current assessment guidelines (in accordance to the Total Defence Silver Badge Syllabus) states that students will work on the reflection after attending the learning journey organised for them.  Please see attached for the Total Defence Silver Badge Lesson Syllabus (also available in our CPBS website).

In the meantime, please follow the current assessment guidelines until further notice.  In terms of submitting the documents for badge applications, we seek the help of the teachers to mark the reflections and submit the results using the CPB-TDF form (see attached) to collate the results for badge application.  The form can be sent or attached in the CPB system without signatures, but the hardcopy must be submitted to your Zone CPB officer in order to obtain the certificate and badges awarded by NEXUS-MINDEF.  The Zone CPB officers will collect the certificates and badges on the school’s behalf for distribution.

We will keep you updated through the following channels:

1.     Via the Zone CPB Officers who will forward any updates to you

2.     Through the CPBS Mailing List (if you have subscribed)

3.     Through the CPBS Website (

In the pipeline, we will be working with the HQ’s training department to train the Officer Course trainees on how to conduct Total Defence badge lessons.  As the officers-to-be have already been educated in schools based on the National Education syllabus and in Social Studies, the training will help them enhance their knowledge on Total Defence before they embark on their roles in teaching Total Defence to our cadets out there.

Best Regards,
